Our History

Co-founded by Drs. Robert A. Pflederer and R. Kent Bryan, RenalCare Associates was formed in 1975. Since then, the physician group has grown to two Board-certified transplant surgeons, Dr. Ketel and Dr. O'Connor12 Board-certified nephrologists, including specialists in pediatric nephrology, Dr. Bland and Dr. Horinek and physicians certified by the American Society of Hypertension (ASH)* as specialists in clinical hypertension, Dr. Sparrow and Dr. Rosborough. In addition, three physician assistants, four family nurse practitioners, along with our administrator and assistant administrator, round out our highly qualified team.

Given the well-rounded expertise of our entire staff, the physicians of RenalCare Associates feel the umbrella, Illinois Kidney Disease and Hypertension Center, offers prospective patients and other physicians a better understanding of all the organization has to offer.

*Note: The Certified Specialists program was the ASH's response to the recognition that a coordinated effort by healthcare providers is required to manage hypertension and its related problems. ASH created the designation "for the specific purpose of identifying and recognizing physicians with expert skills and knowledge in the management of clinical hypertension and its related disorders." Specialists in Clinical Hypertension can act as local and regional consultants for complex, difficult cases, as well as assist in advice regarding guidelines and process improvement.
