RenalCare Associates Launches
Illinois Kidney Disease and Hypertension Center

(Peoria) RenalCare Associates, S.C. recently launched the Illinois Kidney Disease and Hypertension Center (IKDHC). Based in Peoria, Illinois, the physician group now works under the umbrella of IKDHC to provide complete nephrology care and surgery for patients in Central Illinois – including Bloomington, Pekin, Ottawa, Princeton, Macomb, Canton, Hopedale, Peru and other surrounding communities.

"Our Board-certified physicians specialize in treating patients with kidney disease and a variety of other related disorders as well," Dr. Robert Sparrow, a Board-certified nephrologist and Certified Specialist in Clinical Hypertension, said. "The Illinois Kidney Disease and Hypertension Center was created to detect and treat kidney disease and high blood pressure (hypertension) as early as possible, thereby preventing these conditions from becoming life threatening."

High Blood Pressure Linked to Many Serious Conditions
Sparrow also said that getting your blood pressure checked regularly is critical. Recent data indicates that one in four adults in America suffers from hypertension (high blood pressure) and one in nine suffers from kidney disease. "Many don't even know they have either condition until they are checked by their doctor," he continued. "The problem is that untreated or undiagnosed hypertension can result in many serious conditions, including stroke, heart attack, peripheral artery disease, kidney failure and damage to other organs."

Special Treatment for Difficult Cases
The IKDHC has over 30 years of experience and works in conjunction with primary care physicians, endocrinologists, and cardiovascular specialists to manage patients with difficult-to-control hypertension and patients with kidney disease. The staff also treats patients who experience illnesses as a result of abnormalities in their body's water and/or mineral balance (electrolyte disorders).

RenalCare Associates was co-founded by Drs. Robert A. Pflederer and R. Kent Bryan in 1975. Since then, the physician group has grown to two Board-certified transplant surgeons and 12 Board-certified nephrologists, including specialists in pediatric nephrology and physicians certified by the American Society of Hypertension as specialists in clinical hypertension. In addition, five physician assistants and four family nurse practitioners round out the highly qualified team.
